YHA KESWICK
In June 2017, Brown & Bancroft Interiors completed a £1.5m project for the Youth Hostel Association (YHA) at its premises in Keswick. The popular Lake District hostel, which is located in the town centre adjacent to the River Greta, suffered extensive flood damage when Storm Desmond hit the UK in December 2015 and has undergone major works to repair, refurbish and install flood defence systems to the property.
Handed over in two phases, the first stage works focused on reinstating the ground floor of the building and administering damp proofing treatments as well as restoring external walk ways next to the River. While the second stage saw the installation of a new reception area and kitchen as well as improvement works to the entire 26-dorm hostel to refresh and upgrade facilities including adding ensuite bathrooms. In addition, a bright, modern 40-seat restaurant was created featuring four full-height glazed doors allowing YHA guests to look out onto the River at meal times.
All works were completed while the hostel remained open and fully functional.
